CASE is proud to announce a special duo of cultural events in partnership with the St. George Foundation and les Productions Artscène of the Cégep de Drummondville.
The concert series will feature recent and upcoming graduates from the cégep's “Virtuose” program, performing in the beautiful setting of the historic St. George Anglican Church. To add a unique twist, each concert will open with a special guest giving a short talk about local heritage in the spirit of each evening's theme.
First Concert, March 3 at 7 p.m.
"Place aux Femmes: Jazz et Toiles / Jazz and Art, Her Way" Featuring The Kelowna Rose Jazz Quartet and Chantal Proulx, Historical Researcher
This concert will feature the exciting talents of the Kelowna Rose Jazz Quartet, an ensemble put together by recent "Virtuose" graduate Kelowna Chauvin, and includes a fellow recent graduate, Antoine St-Onge, on bass. The quartet is rounded out by two teachers from the music department, Philippe Brochu on drums and Sylvain Marcotte on keyboard.
Carried by Chauvin’s rich voice and St-Onge's deft bass lines, the quartet swings through a repertoire of jazz standards and classics. The evening will be opened by a short talk from historian Chantal Proulx, whose research into local history has led her to uncover the remarkable talents and legacy of artist Charlotte Sheppard. She will tell us about Sheppard's life and art. Proulx’s talk will be given mostly in French, while an English resume of her talk will be provided in the program.
All proceeds from this performance will be donated to La Rose des Vents, which supports women and children who are victims of domestic violence in the Drummondville area.
Reservations are required for each concert and can be made by sending an email to casemcq.project.agent@gmail.com. A suggested minimum donation of $15 for adults and $10 students (children 12 and under are free) also applies to both performance dates.
